Improving support for young people with speech, language, and communication needs

We are working with the Kent and Medway NHS Clinical Commissioning Group to transform the support for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in Kent.

The initiative is being supported by use of the Balanced System® from Better Communication CIC, to create an outcomes based framework and delivery model for integrated services.

We are working towards the following outcomes.

  • A needs-led service for speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) with fair outcomes at the core.
  • Families who are confident in the system to support them and their children and young people.
  • Everyone working in the system understands their contribution to the overall outcomes for speech, language and communication.
  • Defined measures of impact at individual, cohort and countywide level.

We are also providing funded licences and support for 40 schools and settings to develop their SLCN provision using the Balanced System® framework. For more information visit the Balanced System® schools and settings website.
