Parish councils

Kent has over 300 parish and town councils who provide a variety of services to their local community.

Parish Councillors represent all residents within their parish, and will need listen to, and understand, the views and needs of different groups within the community.

They have a responsibility to know what's going on in their community, especially about the diverse  and mixed views. They are an elected representative, not a volunteer or employee, who serve a four-year term, unless they're co-opted or elected in a by-election. It's their responsibility to apply the law and follow the Code of Member Conduct.
