Secondary school places

You must apply for a secondary school place for your child to start year 7 at secondary school. You will need to do this when your child is in Year 6 at primary school.

If your child is already at secondary school and you want to move them to a different school you must apply for an in year admission.

What to do

  • Choose a school

It's important to find out more about schools you’re interested in before you apply. You can apply for up to 4 schools.

If you are thinking about applying for a grammar school you can register your child for the Kent Test. The test assesses whether grammar school is a suitable option for your child.

  • Apply

Applications for children due to start secondary school in September 2014 closed on 5 November 2013. Call 03000 41 21 21 if you missed the deadline.

Applications for children due to start secondary school in September 2015 open in September 2014.

You can apply online or by post. Full details of how to apply will be available when applications open.

You can apply for up to 4 schools, putting them in order of preference. It’s in your best interests to list 4 schools. Naming only one school does not guarantee your child a place at that school or give your child priority for a place over another child, neither does naming a school more than once.

    Additional information

Some schools may need you to complete an additional form called a Supplementary Information Form (SIF). You can obtain the form from the school.
