Getting an exercise referral means you can get a personalised structured activity programme delivered by qualified instructors.
You may be eligible for the scheme if you are:
- at least 18 years
- have a medical condition or are recovering from an illness or operation
- referred by your GP or healthcare professional (e.g. physiologist, physiotherapist or nurse)
- living in East Kent (the scheme is currently only running in Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Shepway, Swale and Thanet).
The scheme is delivered by local leisure providers who offer a range of gym programmes and classes such as yoga, pilates and swimming – you can pick the option that suits you. Speak to them to see if this is something they offer and what charges will apply. The price will vary depending on the activity and exercise provider you choose.
Similar exercise schemes may be available in other areas in Kent but you will need to contact your local district council to find out what is available.
Healthcare professionals and leisure providers that are new to the scheme in the east of Kent can email PHadmin@kent.gov.uk to find out more.
