Electric scooters (e-scooters)

Riding an e-scooter on a public road or path in Kent is illegal, and this is enforced by Kent Police.

However, in partnership with the Department for Transport, we are facilitating an e-scooter rental trial to learn how e-scooters can contribute to future sustainable transport strategies.

E-scooter trials in Canterbury

Since November 2020, we have worked with Canterbury City Council and e-scooter manufacturer Bird on an e-scooter rental trial.

We want to encourage sustainable local travel, and lessen the impact of reduced public transport capacity since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

With safety in mind we started small, with a few scooters and a small operating area. But we're expanding in phases to cover more of Canterbury and collect more data, still with safety in mind.
