Prince of Wales Youth Club

The Prince of Youth Club in Northgate needed a vehicle to get youth club members and sports groups to and from sports events and outings and extend the offer of transport to other groups such as:

  • schools
  • early years groups
  • homelessness and domestic abuse charities.

We awarded the club a grant to buy a new minibus, which was purchased in 2020. COVID-19 measures meant the original purpose of the vehicle was disrupted, but the youth club put their new vehicle to good use, delivering emergency food parcels and resources to the most vulnerable in their community. They delivered:

  • over 21,500 packed lunches
  • 2,500 food hampers
  • educational packs
  • COVID-19 tests
  • medication.

They also took people who had no other transport to vaccination appointments, medical appointments and shopping trips in socially distanced conditions.

Since returning to normality, in addition to the regular twice-weekly trips to and from the youth club, the vehicle has been used for camping trips, football tours and educational trips. Including trips to:

  • Blean Woods (to take part in forest school activities)
  • wild-life parks
  • castles
  • sports sessions including boxing shows and tournaments
  • swimming
  • trampolining parks
  • London for theatre, museums and cinema.

Northgate Youth Club looks forward to the minibus service growing even bigger over the coming years as it opens up opportunities for the whole community.
