Greener Kent
Kent, the Garden of England, has rich and rare landscapes, heritage, and wildlife. It's an amazing place to live, work, and visit. The natural environment has enormous benefits for our health, wellbeing, and local economies.
Greener Kent is our campaign to inspire everyone to do what they can to protect and enhance our:
- woodlands
- chalk streams
- wildflower meadows
- coastline
- all the other natural gems that we treasure.
We want our communities to thrive in balance with nature.
Working towards a Greener Kent
We are committed to reducing the impacts of climate change. This includes both population growth and the biodiversity crisis. We work with many other organisations across Kent to achieve more together. Find out more about our:
- environmental commitments and plans
- strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- work to restore and improve nature and biodiversity
- roles in connecting people with nature via our country parks, through countryside partnerships and encouraging residents and visitors to Explore Kent
- responsibilities to reduce and manage waste sustainably
- work to manage flood risk and adapt to the effects of extreme weather, including heatwaves
- role in protecting and promoting Kent’s rich heritage
- support for businesses across Kent to embrace the benefits of a lower carbon economy.
How to get involved
We are facing some big challenges, but there are so many things that you can do to help tackle them. There are 1.6 million people living in Kent and if we act together, we can have an enormous positive impact.
You can:
- follow Greener Kent on Facebook and X to keep up to date with our latest projects, news and ideas that you can share with others
- get inspired to walk or cycle more and appreciate Kent’s awesome natural landscapes with Explore Kent
- look at opportunities to reduce the energy and water used in your home
- save money and the planet by thinking before you buy, reusing items again and again, buying pre-loved items and repairing and upcycling
- support our vital bees and other pollinators or look into tree planting
- volunteer with our fantastic countryside partnerships or heritage team.
Are you a business or a community? Are you interested in joining an environmental network or collaborating with us? We’d love to hear from you! Email GreenerKent@kent.gov.uk and we'll get back to you.
