Improvements to the SEND information hub - April to June 2022

Your feedback is shaping how we are improving our SEND information hub and community directory.

This quarter, we received 21 pieces of feedback letting us know what you like and dislike, and what information is missing.

One fifth of the feedback we received rated our SEND web pages as good, whilst two thirds rated as poor. Comments included:

  • "a fantastic website, easily able to access the information I was looking for!"
  • "happy with service, very easy to understand, staff are always helpful"
  • "KCC are underfunded"
  • "I want to know how to get an EHC"
  • "Why is there no phone number?"
  • "The hyperlinks are not active"

There's a few broken links

We fix broken links either:

  • within 15 minutes
  • the next working day, if you let us know in the evening, Friday or the weekend.

If the link is from another website, we will contact them and request that they take action.

Cannot find information about education, health and care (EHC) plans

Over the summer we're working to try and find the right balance between:

  • giving lots of detailed great quality information that you have asked for
  • reducing the amount of information you need to read, as it's too much for some.
Our updates are overwhelming to readWe have reduced the amount of information in this quarter's you said we did.
Funding and lack of SEND services

We'll work with the NHS to find out what additional support services are needed in Kent and how to jointly fund them.

For more information read our SEND joint commissioning approach.

Frustration with contacting us

A new service redesign will be in place later this year, which we hope will make it easier for you to contact us.

You haven't heard of the terms:
  • SEND information hub
  • local offer.
To help promote the SEND information hub, we are increasing our social media posts via our Facebook and Twitter.
You want to know which professionals you will meet along the SEND journey.A new SEND teams and their role page has been created, explaining who they are and what their job is.
You want to learn more about parent rights.A new rights for a child or young person with SEND page has been created.

We have updated our parent support page with policy and law information.

SEND information roadshow feedback

We asked ResponseWhat we're doing to help

How do you find support?

Most used internet searches.A new SEND information hub flyer will be created. This will be shared via families through meeting professionals.
How do you find accessible and inclusive activities for your SEND child or young person? Most families were not too sure where to look for this information. We will be promoting our local directory, including 1,300 inclusive entries.

Our days out page has been updated too to include loads of great accessible and inclusive ideas.
What do you think of our SEND information roadshows? Those who attended found the roadshows said they were packed with information and had a friendly atmosphere.Good news, they're coming back in the autumn!

We're hoping to find a wide range of community venues, so more of you can attend!
