Animal welfare

Kent Trading Standards aim to assist the farming community to meet their legal obligations by providing advice and guidance on the health and welfare of livestock.

We do this by routinely visiting livestock keepers, markets, slaughterhouses, agricultural shows and transporters and by responding to complaints received.

Enforcement action will be considered against those who do not comply with their legal obligations, in line with our enforcement policy.

If you have a concern about an animal on a farm, contact the animal and plant health agency on 03000 20 03 01.

For any other animal welfare issues, please contact the RSPCA 24 hour cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.

If you’re concerned about animals at livestock markets, slaughterhouses, in transit, during importation or in regard to possible disease outbreaks you can find out more information on our further advice and guidance page.

You can also access a range of links to holding books, veterinary medicine records and more on our livestock movements and records page.
