Community Car Service

Tunbridge Wells’ Community Car Service (CCS) provides safe transport for people who are unable to use public transport due to poor physical or mental health or mobility issues.

The service takes passengers wherever they need to go, from medical and dental appointments to shopping, social clubs, family visits and hair appointments.

Organisers have also introduced a popular coffee morning, which people can join to meet others over a warm drink and cake as well as learn new IT skills.

We awarded CCS a £20,000 Community Transport Grant, which allowed it to continue during COVID-19, upgrading ICT equipment and its website to cope with increased demand. Organisers were also able to implement additional services to help people throughout the pandemic.

These included ‘Click, collect and deliver’ shops for people who could not find available delivery slots, ‘Call and Check’ to check in on those living alone or isolating and a vaccine car service, alongside ‘Cabs for Jabs’, to help people get to their appointments.

CCS also arranged a Christmas hamper to be delivered to its customers, which proved even more crucial when changes to COVID-19 guidelines meant many were unexpectedly alone for Christmas.

The Community Car Service continues to operate in Tonbridge and Malling and Tunbridge Wells, providing invaluable support to many vulnerable residents and their families. Visit the Community Car Service's page on Facebook.
