Community transport

Community transport gives you access to a bus or car service if you can't access public transport.

Parishes, charities and community groups can set up transport schemes to meet the needs of their own communities. Download our community transport guidance toolkit (PDF, 3.7 MB), for signposts to organisations that can help you. You can also contact the Community Transport Association for further information and support.

Funding for community transport

Following the successful allocation of funding for community transport schemes in Kent, the Public Transport team is now running a second round of bids for capital grant funding for parish councils, wishing to set up their own community transport scheme or develop an existing one. Applications need to be submitted by 14 December 2018.

Parishes are invited to bid for capital funding to assist them in setting up their own community transport scheme. Others who can apply are:

  • parishes who already run a community transport scheme looking to improve or extend
  • partnership bids with more than 1 parish
  • bids in partnership with other organisations such as social enterprise companies and charities, but any bids must be led and owned by the parish.
