Badsell Road junction improvement
We are making improvements to the junction of Badsell Road (B2017) and Maidstone Road (B2160).
To support the increase in traffic from the new housing developments in Paddock Wood we will:
- increase the capacity of the junction
- improve pedestrian and cycle facilities
- reduce the risk of flooding by providing new flood storage areas.
Why we're making changes
There are 3 major housing developments being built in Paddock Wood which together will create nearly 1,000 new homes.
The improvement of the Badsell Road and Maidstone Road junction will reduce the future traffic impacts of the new developments.
We will lead the scheme, with funding provided by the three developers.
What will change
The scheme will:
- realign and widen the existing Badsell Road to provide 2 lanes on the approach to the Maidstone Road junction
- widen the existing footpath along the north side of Badsell Road and include a verge
- include a new shared footpath/cycle facility on the south side of Badsell Road with a direct link to the new housing development
- extend the existing shared footpath/cycle facility along Maidstone Road
- include new traffic signals at the Badsell Road and Maidstone Road junction with improved pedestrian crossing facilities and new crossing provided on Badsell Road
- provide flood mitigation basins and underground storage area
- include new landscape planting to replace the loss of trees.

Scheme updates
2026
We are procuring a contractor to undertake the construction of the scheme. We expect to appoint a contractor during June 2026.
Construction would then start in August 2026, and we expect the scheme would take approximately 6 months to complete.
We will update this page again once we have appointed a contractor and we are clearer about the construction programme.
