The National Year of Reading is about enjoying reading in ways that work for you.
The theme is Go All In. If you are into it. Read into it.
It is about reading more of what you already love and discovering new interests along the way. That is why we are inviting you to come back and check our monthly themes, and discover more about the things you love to read about.
We are supporting the National Year of Reading by encouraging people to read more for pleasure, through a programme of free author events and themed activities taking place across the county.
What is happening in Kent
Throughout the year, libraries across Kent will be promoting reading for pleasure through:
- monthly reading themes
- library events and reading groups
- free author talks and special events
- book displays and reading lists.
What’s on offer will change each month, giving you new ways to get involved.

August’s theme is digital literacy
We live in a digital age. An influx of new technologies and digital platforms has transformed the way that we live, and digital literacy has become more important than ever.
From ads, algorithms and apps to influencers, AI and ‘the cloud’ – reading and learning more about the digital world can help build up digital skills, and allow us to feel more confident in navigating online spaces in a safer and enjoyable way.

IT Buddies
Our volunteer IT Buddies are here to support you in building up digital skills and confidence, helping you get online with free computer and Wi-Fi access in libraries across Kent.

There are over 30 Digital Hubs in libraries and community spaces across the county to help you access support to become, or remain, digitally included.

Free computer courses
Access basic step-by-step computer courses in libraries with Learn My Way. Learn to use a keyboard and mouse, create an email account, search the internet, shop online and much more.

Learn how assistive technology can help you and your loved ones
Could you, or someone you know, benefit from using care technology to live safely and independently? The Technology Enhanced Lives Service is touring Kent Libraries to showcase how technology can support care at home, and out in the community.
These free advice sessions are run by experts and are a great way to discover how digital devices can make everyday life easier. There's no need to book an appointment, just drop in to a session.
