Team building

There is something for all ages and lifestyles and our staff are great at making everyone feel at home in the countryside, fostering creativity and togetherness on a day packed with exploration and adventure.

Students

Our woodland adventure days at Shorne Woods Country Park are for students in school years 7 to 13 and are led by experienced, expert rangers.

Tell us the needs of your students and what you want them to get out of the day, and we’ll tailor a package to suit you.

A typical day features four activities, with large groups being split into smaller teams to experience each of the activities on rotation.

The team building days help students to:

  • develop trust, co-operation and respect for others
  • appreciate the benefits of working as a team
  • develop leadership and collaborative skills
  • observe peers in a different environment (for an appreciation of skills and qualities that may not be obvious in a classroom)
  • have a fun, healthy and active day, close to nature and away from technology!
  • develop confidence and make new friends

Activities

Using a hand-held GPS device, small groups must find virtual caches hidden in the woods. The team (all participants) that returns in the quickest time is the winner!

This activity promotes team working and supporting others. Because success depends on the whole team returning together, the group must adjust its pace to accommodate everyone.

Students can get stuck into a number of games that demand good communication skills, trust and co-operation. For some, leadership skills will come to the fore!

Small groups must build a rope bridge and make sure every member can use it to cross the obstacle. Strategic thinking, problem solving, team working and participation are key to successfully completing this task.

With limited resources students must build a waterproof shelter in the woods; functionality will be tested and if it’s not up to the task there will be wet faces! This is great for those who want to get back to nature and enjoy developing their problem solving skills in an outdoor environment.

Given a disaster scenario, students work together to decide what limited items they want to keep, to help them survive. This activity tests powers of logic, and is useful for developing speaking and listening skills, and observing how a consensus is reached (or not)!

Teams must solve a riddle to get all members across an imaginary river, taking into account certain constraints. Logical thinking, quick decision making and excellent teamwork are key to success in this challenge.

Students work in small groups to make a fire using natural materials. They are taught how to do this safety with respect for the environment.

Teachers

Bond with your team on a woodland adventure day at Shorne Woods or Lullingstone Country Park.

There is something for all ages and lifestyles and our staff are great at making everyone feel at home in the countryside, fostering creativity and togetherness on a day packed with exploration and adventure.

Setting out from base camp use GPS to find and reach four different locations in the park. At each location you must complete a team task. You will be awarded points for the first 3 tasks. More points mean a better chance of completing the final task, and feeling like a champion.
