Moving home can be stressful, and it can feel even harder when your child or young person is part way through an education, health and care needs assessment (EHCNA).

This page is for families who are moving to Kent while an assessment is still in progress. It explains what usually happens next, what you need to do, and how we continue the assessment once we receive the information from your current local authority.

Every child is different, so education settings and support can vary.

1. Tell your current local authority you're moving

You must tell your current local authority (LA) at least 15 working days before you move. This gives them time to transfer details of your EHCNA to us.

2. Review your child or young person's EHC needs assessment

Once we have the paperwork, we will allocate your EHCNA to an officer. The officer will then follow our EHC needs assessment process.

If your current LA agreed to carry out an assessment but didn't decide if a EHC plan should be issued, we will continue our assessment process. Our officer will keep you up to date on any timescales and will contact if they need anything else.

This process is the same if the child is a looked after child.
