The training helps to build your young person’s confidence. The personalised training will allow them to:

  • access future job opportunities
  • find new hobbies
  • improve their social skills

With a trainer's help, they'll be able to use the best public transport route for them. This will be the safest and not the quickest.

They will be there for your young person during and after training.

When training takes place

Training takes place when your young person needs to travel. Whether that's to and from school, college or their place of learning. We can train them in the morning and afternoon. Or just the morning or afternoon. We'll talk this through with you during our first meeting.

We can also offer extra training on days they're not going to school or college.

What training involves

We will support them to manage every aspect of their journey without help. This includes:

  • road safety
  • travelling by bus or train
  • problem solving
  • personal safety
  • how and where to ask for help
  • use of mobile phone in case of emergencies.

We will give feedback often to you and your young person.

We do ask for you to support your young person away from the training. This can be travelling with them via a bus or train.

Training agreement

Once everyone's happy with the journey and we finish the risk assessments, we'll ask you to sign the training agreement. Either you (parent), carer, legal guardian, or the young person can do this.
