Folkestone Museum

Folkestone Museum to be transformed into a History Resource Centre

Have you ever wanted to follow a curator behind the scenes in a museum and see what lies behind the display cases and the text panels? Well in 2009 you will be able to realise this dream when we transform our museum into a visible storage area called the History Resource Centre. Photo of a History on Wheels cart

You will be able to touch, research, explore and take part in a variety of activities designed around giving you the opportunity to discover our rich and varied collections, most of which have been hidden in our crammed stores. You will be able to view up to 2,000 artefacts ranging from our regionally important fish fossils, 19th and 20th century local history collection together with our coins and medals and small paintings collection.

As part of this initiative we have introduced learning activities designed to give you the chance to touch real objects and explore history throughout the library. These include two 'History in your Hands' boxes containing real objects from our collection which you can use to explore more fully the heritage room local history resources. If you want to look more closely at specific themes in history why not get your hands on history by using our 'History on Wheels' interactives?
