"Being scammed doesn’t just affect your money—it affects your confidence. I know, because it happened to me. I felt embarrassed, unsettled, and unsure who to trust. But I want you to know—there is help out there. Scammers are clever.

They catch people off guard—on a busy day, or when you’re feeling low. It’s not your fault. And you’re not the only one. Many people don’t report scams because they feel ashamed. But speaking up is the first step to feeling better—and it helps protect others too.

When I was scammed, the caller told me I’d be arrested if I didn’t pay immediately. I was frightened—and I didn’t know what to do. Start by calling your bank on 159. They may be able to stop further payments or help recover your money.

Then speak to Citizens Advice [0808 223 1133]. They’ll explain your rights and what to do next. We’re also seeing more scams around home improvements—like fake offers for loft insulation, solar panels, spray foam removal, or government grants for green energy.

If someone turns up at your door or calls you about these, be cautious. For in-person scams such as rogue traders, police or trading standards impersonators, or courier fraudsters, please report to the charity Crimestoppers. [0800 555 111].

Being scammed can leave you feeling anxious or low. That’s completely normal. If you’ve been scammed, please don’t feel ashamed. These people are clever, and they catch you off guard. But you’re not alone."
