Dr Sahota: Hi, Dr. Sahota here. With so much convenience and fast food available these days, eating heathy can be a challenge but it doesn't have to be.

Today, we are going to follow our 3 families from Kent as they make small changes to their eating habits all with the help of the change4life Be Food Smart app. This clever little app is packed full of useful hints and tips, kids activities and mini missions for the whole family. By downloading it onto their phones and tablets, our families have been able to discover, how much sugar, saturated fat and salt is inside their everyday food and drink. They simply scan the barcode on the label to make healthier choices whenever and wherever they shop.

The app uses a simple traffic light system helping them to cut down on less healthy foods - code red, and opt for healthier food choices which get the green light. Our families also explore the change4life website to get tips on heathy eating like how to make nutritious snacks and packed lunches, and the best ways to get their recommended 5-day portions of fruit and veg.

It was great to see one family enjoy trying a different fruit for the first time and discovering a tasty source of vitamins, minerals and fibre. The kids were asked what they thought it was, then they were asked to vote whether they liked it.
