Caption: Vaping and E-cigarettes. The Facts

Narrator : "Smoking remains a leading cause of disease, poor health and early death. Switching to nicotine vapes can help adult smokers to quit smoking."

An animated man is seen waving his hands, clearing the smoke around him. After the smoke is gone the man is joined by another man and a woman, who all stand with a smile on their face.

Narrator : "Most young people don't vape or smoke."

An animated diagram of a smoker's lungs is shown. The scene zooms in to the lungs to show the harmful tar and chemicals that are in the lungs.

Narrator : "Vaping is less harmful as you don't inhale the toxic tar and carbon monoxide you get from smoking tobacco smoke. But vapes are not harmless. Young people's bodies are developing, so they may be more sensitive to the impacts of vaping,"

Four animated people are shown experiencing different side effects of vaping. The first person is seen coughing, the second is suffering with a headache, the third is experiencing dizziness while the fourth has a sore throat.

Narrator : "Short-term effects of vaping can include coughing, headaches, dizziness and sore throats. And, as yet, the long-term effects are unknown. However, the impact is likely to be far less than smoking. Most vapes contain nicotine which is an addictive substance that can be hard to stop. Vapes and vaping products which contain nicotine are age-restricted so it's against the law to sell them to anyone under 18 and for adults to buy them on their behalf. Anyone who sells vapes to under 18s is driven by profit and doesn't care who they sell to. Don't be duped by them."

An animated vape pen is seen falling down into a pile of rubbish. Later a bird is seen landing in a landfill full with rubbish and vapes.

Narrator: "Besides the health impact, there's the environment to think about too. Over 8 million vapes are thrown away every week or are recycled incorrectly. What's more, single use vapes contain batteries and difficult to recycle plastics which break down in landfills. Vapes should be recycled using a recycling scheme rather than placed in general household  waste. Like tobacco and cigarette butts, vapes contain chemicals that can pollute the soil and water.

The scene pans down from the landfill, slowly changing to a blue background.

Narrator "Remember, vapes are meant to help smokers to quit for good."
