Renew your older or disabled person's bus pass
The type of bus pass you have will determine your renewal. We will either send your new pass to you automatically, or ask for more evidence.
Renew your older person's bus pass
We renew your older person’s bus pass 2 to 4 weeks before your current one expires if you have used it:
- in Kent
- within a year of its expiry date
- on a bus with an electronic pass reader.
We will not renew your bus pass for 3 reasons:
- You haven’t used it on a bus with an electronic pass reader in the last year.
- Your address shows up on a data cleanse as being incorrect.
- Personal details such as name, date of birth, or photograph need checking.
We will send you a letter if we need to check any of your personal details or if you haven’t used your bus pass. We will not send you a letter if your address is out of date, so let us know as soon as you move.
I have my renewal letter
Visit My Bus Pass website to renew your bus pass. You will need your bus pass number (shown on the front of your pass).
Moved house since? Let us know about your change of address at the same time. If you do not provide us with evidence, it will delay us sending your pass.
I do not have a renewal letter
Don't worry if you haven't received a letter from us. We will send your bus pass 2 to 4 weeks before your current one expires.
Moved address? Let us know you've moved as soon as possible, so we can send your pass to your new address. If you didn’t tell us you moved and your bus pass went to your old address, there’s a £10 replacement charge.
My pass has expired
That's okay, renew your pass online.
I no longer need my pass
If you no longer need your pass, or a loved one has passed away, find out what you can do with the pass.
I have moved address
Let us know you've moved as soon as possible, so we can send your pass to your new address. If you didn’t tell us you moved and your bus pass went to your old address, there’s a £10 replacement charge.
You must tell us at least 6 weeks before you move, to give us time to update your record before we send you your new pass.
Renew your disabled person's bus pass
If you haven't received a letter and you have provided us with evidence that your disability is permanent, we'll automatically renew your pass 2 to 4 weeks before your old one expires.
You can also renew your pass by visiting My Bus Pass website. You will need:
- your bus pass number (shown on the front of your pass) and
- up to date evidence you are still eligible.
You can only use the My Bus Pass website if your pass expires between March 2024 and March 2026, unless you have a companion pass and have received a letter from us asking you to renew.
Declined application
Have you been declined a renewal for your disabled person's bus pass? We may have declined your application because:
- the evidence you submitted may show you no longer qualify for a disabled person's bus pass.
- you already have an older person's bus pass. which can be used in exactly the same way as the disabled person’s pass.
If you think you're eligible, you must send us up-to-date evidence as proof. See what evidence we need.
Renew your disabled and companion bus pass
We are changing the way we renew your disabled plus companion pass. Instead of automatically renewing your pass every year, we will issue it for 5 years in line with other disabled person’s passes.
We will write to you a few weeks before your disabled plus companion pass is about to expire, to let you know how to renew it. In order to have your pass renewed for 5 years, you will need to send us evidence that you are still eligible for a disabled plus companion person’s pass. If you send us the wrong evidence, it may delay us sending your new pass.
If you are no longer eligible for a disabled plus companion person’s pass you may still be eligible for a standard disabled or older person’s pass.
Find out what evidence you need to send us, to prove you are eligible for a disabled person plus companion pass.
Using your newly renewed bus pass
You can start using your new pass immediately. Your old pass will stop working as soon as you use your new one on a bus or on 31 March, whichever comes first.
Please destroy your old pass immediately. You can destroy it in the same way you would do with an old debit or credit card. If you destroy the new pass instead of the old one, you will need to pay £10 for a replacement.
