Drainage and planning policy statement

This policy statement sets out how we, as Lead Local Flood Authority and statutory consultee, will review drainage strategies and surface water management provisions associated with applications for major development. A copy of the document is available on request.

In June 2025, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) released their national standards for sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) which will supersede some of the guidance within this policy.
