Home education does not have to be a permanent decision. If your circumstances change, or you decide that school is the right option for your child, you can apply for a school place through the in-year admissions process.

If you need help with this, your Elective Home Education contact can offer advice and guide you through the process.

If you've been using the National Curriculum to help plan your child's learning, returning to school may feel easier. Your child is more likely to be familiar with subjects and topics being taught in the classroom, which can help them settle back into school life alongside their peers.

For young people, returning to school can also provide access to qualifications, specialist teaching, clubs, activities and opportunities to spend time with other students.
