Tell Us Once
When a loved one passes, you may feel overwhelmed. You may be unsure who to tell. In Kent and Bexley, we use the Tell Us Once service.
Tell Us Once takes away some of the tasks you need to do when you probably don't feel like doing them. It's a quick, free, and simple process to notify many government departments of a death.
At the appointment to register a death, you will meet one of our registrars. They will talk to you about the Tell Us Once service in detail. With you, they will complete an online form on your behalf to start the process. The details are then sent to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The registrar will give you a unique reference number to log into the Tell Us Once system.
Using Tell Us Once
You have up to 28 days to use the Tell Us Once service. When you're ready to do so, you will need the unique reference number from the registrar as well as other information such as:
- their surname
- the date they died
- executor or administrator's details
- details of any surviving spouses.
