VITA Pilot: AI-assisted education, health and care (EHC) plan drafting
We are piloting a new AI-assisted tool called VITA to support our assessment officers when drafting education, health and care (EHC) plans as part of the EHC needs assessment process.
The role of assessment officers
Our assessment officers are responsible for:
- reviewing all the information provided
- making professional decisions
- checking plans are accurate and complete
- approving all draft EHC plans before they are shared with you
- ensuring the quality of every plan.
Assessment officers remain fully accountable for the content and quality of EHC plans, and for the decisions that are made.
How VITA will help assessment officers
VITA will help our assessment officers to prepare draft EHC plans. Our aim is to provide a timely, high-quality service for children, young people and families across Kent.
We hope the VITA pilot will help us:
- draft EHC plans more quickly
- improve consistency across plans
- give assessment officers more time to work directly with children, young people, families, schools and professionals.
What VITA will not do
It will not make decisions on behalf of assessment officers.
All decisions about whether to assess, issue or amend an EHC plan will continue to be made by our assessment officers. Human oversight remains at every stage of the process.
