Preparing for emergencies
Most emergencies are completely unpredictable. But we are required by law to prepare an emergency plan so that resources and experienced people are on standby to respond quickly and in the best possible way when a major crisis - of whatever kind - occurs.
Having a main emergency plan allows us to:
- make good, immediate decisions
- coordinate our efforts to be most effective.
It doesn't specify what particular actions need to be taken when a crisis happens, it just provides essential information so that whatever action we do take is the best possible.
We also look after specific plans for any emergency at a particular site or of a particular type (such as the Channel Tunnel, Dungeness power stations, flu or flooding). Our Kent and Medway Resilience Forum brings together all our information about risk and how we come together in times of crisis.
