Primary school places

You must apply for a primary school place if:

  • your child is due to start primary or infant school (reception year)
  • your child is at infant school (year 2) and is due to start junior school (year 3)
  • your child is at primary school (year 2) and you want your child to move to junior school at the start of year 3

  • Choose a school

    You can apply for a school place from 10 November 2015.

    It's important to find out more about schools you are interested in before you decide to name them on your application form. You can name up to 3 schools on your form.

    Apply between 10 November 2015 and 15 January 2016 for:

    • primary or infant school places (reception year) - if your child was born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 
    • junior school places (year 3) - if your child is currently at infant or primary school and was born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009. 

    You can apply for up to 3 schools, putting them in order of preference. It's in your best interests to list 3 schools. Naming only one school does not guarantee your child a place at that school or give your child priority for a place over another child, neither does naming a school more than once.

    Additional information forms

    Some schools may need you to complete an additional form called a Supplementary Information Form (SIF). You can collect the form from the school.

  • Processing

    We process applications between 16 January and 17 April 2016.

    If you apply online we'll email you on 18 April 2016 after 4pm to tell you which school you have been offered. We cannot guarantee the exact time you will receive your email, this will depend on your email service provider.

    You can also log in to view your offer from 5pm. 

    If you applied by post we sent your offer by first class post on 18 April 2016.

  • Offers

    If you apply online we'll email you on 18 April 2016 after 4pm to tell you which school you had been offered. We cannot guarantee the exact time you will receive your email, this will depend on your email service provider.

    You can also log in to view your offer online after 5pm. If you need to reset your password you must use the email address you registered with.

    If you applied by post we'll send your offer by first class post on 18 April 2016.
