Gravesend to Tilbury ferry

From 1 April 2024, the Gravesend to Tilbury Ferry Service will not operate. Find out more information and full details of the public consultation.

A regular ferry service operates from Monday to Saturday between Gravesend and Tilbury riverside.

Travelling with children

  • Child fares apply to 5 to 15 year olds.
  • Children under 5 travel free of charge at all times when they are accompanied by a fare-paying passenger.
  • No more than 4 children under the age of 5 can accompany each fare-paying passenger.

Bicycles and accessibility

  • The Gravesend-Tilbury ferry is a foot and bicycle ferry only.
  • Bicycles must stay on the boarding deck. But fold up bicycles and scooters can be taken inside the cabin.
  • The ferry has space for most types of disability scooters but these must not enter the main cabin. A small area inside the main cabin can be used for a standard size wheelchair during bad weather.
  • The ferry cannot transport motorcycles of any size.

Buses from Tilbury Ferry terminal

A regular bus service 99 is provided by EnsignBus in association with C2C Trains between Tilbury Ferry Terminal and Tilbury town centre and Rail Station.

Alternative transport service

When the service can't run, we suggest using alternative public transport services between Gravesend and Thurrock and onto Tilbury.
