We're working with Kent's district and parish councils and private sector partners to:

  • improve the electric charging network across the county
  • drive the adoption of electric vehicles by residents, businesses and public transport providers.

The Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund (LEVI)

We have awarded a 20-year contract to charge point operator, Urban Fox, to deliver the LEVI project. This project will provide a network of public on-street electric vehicle (EV) chargers in locations where residents are not able to charge at home. The project is entirely funded by Urban Fox’s private investment and the LEVI grant. Urban Fox will be responsible for the installation, ownership, operation and maintenance of the charge points.

We are working with Motability and the Energy Saving Trust to make sure, wherever possible, the charge points meet accessibility standards for all drivers. Read more about charge point accessibility.

In most cases electric vehicle-only bays will be enforced by a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). Each TRO is advertised and consulted on. You can object to, or support, any of the proposed traffic orders.

The first phase of installations will start in autumn 2026.

Suggest a charge point location

We are currently identifying potential locations for on street charging points.

Suggest a charge point location

Not every street will be suitable to install a charge point. We will consider:

  • if a suitable power supply is availble
  • constraints on the road
  • if there is enough space, such as pavement width
  • planning constraints.

Visit the Urban Fox website for more information about Urban Fox including their range of charging solutions.

Installing more chargers around Kent

Working with district councils

We have led a project with Connected Kerb and 5 district councils. We placed hundreds of public charger points in public car parks around Kent.

Updates on our charging rollout from Connected Kerb.

Working with parish councils

We are working with district and borough councils to find suitable locations for charge points. We would also like to hear from you if you would like to nominate your street. You can do this via the interactive map.

To install chargers in smaller communities we are working with:

  • parish councils
  • town councils
  • village halls
  • community hubs.

We have installed 62 chargers at 25 locations to date and are in the process of adding another 8 chargers as part of this project.

Supporting public transport

Effective public transport contributes to our climate goals by removing cars from the road. But to go further, we're working with partners to lead the shift away from fossil fuels, and toward cleaner vehicles.

For taxis and private-hire vehicles, we have installed 24 rapid charger sockets. They are spread across 6 districts.

We're also working with bus service providers to increase the number of electric buses on the road. Our projects have seen trials for an:

  • 'opportunity charged' electric bus in Greenhithe, Bluewater and Dartford
  • overnight-charged electric bus trial servicing Canterbury Park and Ride and some Maidstone routes
  • award winning electric minibus pilot in our Kent Karrier service.

Keeping our own vehicles green

We have 8 electric vehicles and 46 hybrid vehicles in our fleet.

We're installing chargers at our own offices for staff and members of the public to use.
