The Hythe Community Bus Service is run by a consortium of members:

  • Hythe Rotary Club who launched the original scheme in 2009
  • Hythe Town Council who own the vehicles
  • Hythe Bay Primary School who organise the bookings for the buses
  • Hythe Rotary Club who organise the volunteer drivers
  • Sellindge Primary School
  • 1st Hythe Scouts
  • St Leonard’s Parish church, Hythe

The consortium receives valuable advice from Crosskeys Coaches.

We provided funds which enabled the consortium to replace their old vehicles. The new buses were named 'Romeo' and 'Juliet' as they were delivered on Valentine’s Day in 2025!

Any community group in the Hythe area can apply to hire one or both of the buses. The cost to hire the busses is charged per mile and includes insurance, repairs and replacement.

Recent outings have included:

  • school trips to sporting and cultural events and visits
  • St Leonard’s church youth group travelled to Chichester to enjoy a weekend of sailing on the Solent
  • local senior residential homes take residents to outings such as garden centres, tea rooms and scenic and cultural locations
  • Romney Marsh Morris dancers travelled to various performance locations
  • Royal British Legion travelled to Sevenoaks for a band concert.
