Cody joined the Connect to Work programme in November 2025 through The Education People, one of the programme providers in Kent and Medway.

At 19 years old, Cody had never been to a job interview and had no work experience. He also struggled with anxiety, which made it hard for him to leave the house.

How we helped

Cody worked with an employment specialist to build his confidence and learn what kind of job would suit him. Together, they looked at different career options and set goals for finding work.

They wrote cover letters, completed job applications and looked for opportunities. They also explored other ways to find work, such as contacting employers directly.

To help him prepare, Cody joined an online interview skills session. He received positive feedback and grew in confidence.

Through The Education People's partnership with Nando's, Cody applied for a Customer Service Apprenticeship. He was invited to a discovery day, where he could learn more about the role and show what he could do.

As this was his first interview experience, his employment specialist helped him get ready. They worked on interview skills, built his confidence and helped pay for suitable interview clothes.

Cody's success

In March, Cody started work as a Customer Service Apprentice.

Since starting work, Cody's confidence has continued to grow. Before his first day, he contacted his employer himself to check paperwork and confirm important details.

Today, Cody has settled into his role and enjoys being in work. He is also benefiting from earning his own income.

Cody said:

"The Education People helped me a lot with finding jobs. The support has been really helpful, and now I've got a job."
