Switch Together Kent
Over a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in Kent and Medway come from energy use in our homes. While insulation and other measures can help reduce our energy demand, upgrades such as solar panels can help protect us from fluctuating energy prices and reduce emissions. This is especially important for properties with high electricity consumption, for example from heat pumps or charging electric vehicles.
Group buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage
Switch Together is a solar panel and battery storage group-purchase initiative, brought to you by iChoosr. It enables householders and small businesses to install solar panels on their properties at competitive prices.
Solar panels can help you save money on energy bills, as well as reduce your long-term carbon footprint. You can also choose to install battery storage, to store excess solar energy for later use, reducing dependence on the grid.
Homeowners, landlords or small businesses in Kent can register for a free quote for up to 25 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.
If you already have solar panels installed, you can apply for battery storage to maximise the benefits.
How Switch Together works
- Register for free and without obligation. The process is quick and simple.
- Review your personal recommendation at a competitive price, from a pre-vetted installer.
- Decide whether you would like an in-person roof survey based on your personal recommendation. You can contact the Switch Together helpdesk if you have any questions.
- Agree an installation date with the installer if your property is suitable for the technology you want.
- Generate your own renewable electricity with your new Solar PV system!
Planning permission
Solar PV installations are generally considered a 'permitted development' and will usually not need planning permission. However, in some cases, such as in conservation areas and on listed buildings, planning permission may be required. For planning advice, contact your local planning department.
Installation
If you apply and accept your recommendation, the supplier will contact you to survey your roof and set an installation date.

Partners
iChoosr operate Switch Together as independent experts in group buying, ensuring the smooth running of Switch Together schemes in the UK. We have promoted Switch Together since 2020 and work with all 12 Kent local authorities and Medway Council to help residents access competitively priced solar installations from vetted suppliers.
Quality and customer service
iChoosr perform a number of checks to assess installers’ experience, quality and capacity before they can apply to the scheme to ensure a high level of service to our residents. Product and workmanship standards are also set to guarantee the quality of installation and auditing is carried out by a third party to ensure work has been delivered to expected standards.
Throughout the scheme the councils and iChoosr will monitor progress and customer satisfaction closely. As of September 2025, this project has facilitated over:
- 3,920 installations of solar PV systems and batteries
- 250 EV chargers.
