Solar Together Kent

Over a quarter of the carbon emissions from Kent and Medway come from the energy used in our homes. We must act now to make our homes more sustainable. Renewable technology, such as solar panels, is especially important to protect households from fluctuating energy prices, especially those with high electricity consumption, for example from charging electric vehicles.

Group buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage

Solar Together Kent is a solar panel and battery storage group-purchase scheme. It enables householders and small businesses to install solar panels on their homes and businesses at a competitive price.

Solar panels can help you save money on energy bills, as well as reduce your carbon footprint. You can also choose to install battery storage, so electricity generated by the solar panels can be used in your home or via a personal electric vehicle charging point.

Any homeowner, landlord or small business in Kent can register. Applications are limited to 50 solar panels per property.

If you already have solar panels installed you can apply for battery storage to maximise the benefits of your existing solar panel installation.

How Solar Together works

  1. Registration is quick, free and there is no obligation.
  2. Auction of pre-vetted installers bidding against each other to offer the best deal.
  3. Personal recommendation based on your registration details.
  4. You decide if you want to take up the recommendation and proceed with an installation.
  5. Savings on electricity, after installation, by generating your own renewable electricity.

Planning permission

Solar PV installations are considered a 'permitted development' and will generally not need planning permission. However, in some cases, such as in conservation areas and on listed buildings, planning permission may be required. For planning advice, please contact your local planning department:

Quality and customer service

Product and workmanship standards are also set to guarantee the quality of installation and auditing is carried out by a third party to ensure work has been delivered to expected standards.

Throughout the scheme the councils and iChoosr will monitor progress and customer satisfaction closely. As of September 2023, 2,500 installations have been completed in Kent.
