You can register a piece of land as a new town or village green. You must show local people have used it for sports or recreation for at least 20 years 'as of right'. This means without permission, secrecy, or force.

If you own the land, you can choose to register it as a new village green. You do not have to provide any evidence of use.

If the land is being affected by or is identified for development, you can't apply. Check development plans with your district council.

Before you apply

Apply

There is no fee for applying to register a new village green. This is due to section 15 of the Commons Act 2006.
