Tax-Free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare (TFC) is a government scheme to help working families and the self-employed with childcare costs.

Parents and carers who are eligible can open online childcare accounts to pay a registered childcare provider directly and the government will add to the account to help towards childcare costs and save money.

Find out more about what support is available and how to apply by visiting our Tax-Free Childcare page.

Universal Credit childcare

You may be eligible to claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs if you’re eligible for Universal Credit (UC).

You (and your partner if you live with them) will usually need to either:

  • be working - it does not matter how many hours you or your partner work
  • have a job offer

You might be able to get help to pay for the upfront cost of childcare if you cannot afford to pay in advance.

For more information visit GOV.UK for UC support.

Help with childcare while you study

There are a number of different schemes to support you while you study. Visit GOV.UK for support when studying.
