SEND Local Area Strategic Improvement Plan
Following the SEND inspection carried out by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in July 2026, we have developed a draft Local Area Strategic Improvement Plan.
The draft plan sets out how education, health and care services across Kent will work together to address the six areas for improvement identified during the July 2026 SEND inspection and strengthen support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Developed jointly by education, health and care partners across Kent, it focuses on improving the SEND system as a whole so that children, young people and their families receive the right support at the right time.

Improving services for children and young people with SEND is something we all have a role in. Your feedback will help us shape the final improvement plan and make sure it reflects the experiences and needs of children, young people and families across Kent.
We are asking for feedback from:
- parents and carers
- children and young people
- schools, colleges and early years settings
- health organisations
- social care providers and practitioners
- voluntary and community sector organisations
- other partners involved in supporting children and young people with SEND.
As well as this public consultation, we are also working with education, health and care professionals, partner organisations and community groups through workshops, engagement events and discussions to gather a wide range of views.

The consultation closes 2 November.
