Elective home education is the term used to describe parents' decisions to provide education for their children at home instead of sending them to school. It is recognised that parents may choose home education for a variety of reasons.
This document aims to clarify for schools, parents, carers, guardians and related agencies, the policy and procedures to be observed when a parent elects to home educate their child who is of compulsory school age. The policy sets out parents' rights to educate their children at home, together with the legal duties and responsibilities of headteachers and Kent County Council. It also sets out the arrangements we will make in order to carry out our legal duties.
