Every year, we spend about £1.47 billion buying goods, paying for services, and carrying out important work across Kent.

We want this money to do more than just pay for what we need. Through our Winning for Kent: Procurement with Purpose Policy, we will make sure our spending also helps the people, communities and businesses in Kent.

The policy explains how we will look for social value, which means making a positive difference for local people when we choose companies to work with and when we manage contracts.

Our main goals for 2026 to 2028 are to:

  • help people learn new skills and find jobs through apprenticeships, training, and work experience
  • support local businesses in Kent, including small businesses, charities, and community groups
  • create healthier, safer, and stronger communities by encouraging projects that benefit local people and places.

By including social value in the way we buy goods and services, we can make sure public money helps build stronger communities, a successful local economy and a better future for everyone in Kent.
