Food waste collections
Whether it’s rubbish bin day or recycling week, your local council collects your food waste weekly (apart from Dartford and Sevenoaks). We are pleased to see more and more households recycling your food waste rather than binning it. It's better for the environment and saves public money!
Using your food caddy
A food caddy is a great way to collect any food waste your have. You can use:
- an old ice-cream tub
- a Tupperware pot
- a purpose-made caddy from the supermarket.
Having one nearby while you cook makes it simple to collect:
- vegetable peelings
- food scraps
- meat and bones
- plastic-free teabags
- pet food
- bread and pastries.
Once your caddy is full, transfer the contents to your outdoor food caddy. It's now ready for its weekly collection!
Order a food caddy
If you don't have a food caddy or want to replace yours, visit your local council's website. You'll also find great tips and helpful advice about what you can and cannot put in your food caddy.

Haven’t got a food waste collection?
Currently 10 local councils across Kent collect your food waste. If you live in a flat or a communal property, collections will start over the next year.
What happens with your food waste
After your local council collects your food caddy, we will recycle it. We turn it into renewable energy and natural fertiliser!
