We're encouraging businesses and organisations to display official NHS QR code posters at their entrances to help support contact tracing.
Failure to do so could result in a prosecution or a fixed penalty fine.
Using the NHS Test and Trace posters
By using the posters, you can protect your visitors and staff by making contact tracing easier. Here are some simple ways that you can help:
- remove any other QR codes you may already display as these will not work with the new app
- print enough posters to cover all entrances
- in busy places put up multiple copies to ensure that a queue does not build up
- explain to those customers who do not use the QR code that their details must be manually added to a contact log.
Customers who refuse to scan the QR code
If anyone fails to scan the QR code you must take their details. If there is more than one person, you can record the details of the 'lead member' and the number of people in that group (up to 6).
Details must include:
- the name of the customer.
- contact phone number. If a phone number is not available, get an email address or postal address
- date of visit
- arrival time and, where possible, departure time (even estimated time will help)
- name of the assigned staff member, if a customer will interact with only one member of staff (for example, a hairdresser). This should also be recorded on the log.
Records must be kept for 21 days.
Hospitality venues must refuse entry to customers who refuse to scan or log their details.
