Volunteer with adults

Adult education - Skills Plus

Volunteers support students with their learning under the guidance of teaching staff. They also help courses run smoothly by, for example, making and developing resources or maintaining data. Some volunteers may have specialist skills to support specific needs such as dyslexia, visual or hearing impairment.

Volunteers work mostly within Skills Plus Centres supporting learners of English, maths and ESOL. Support is also needed in Life and Living groups for those with learning disabilities and difficulties.

You'll need:

  • an interest in and commitment to supporting others
  • a L3 or equivalent in English and/or maths
  • a willingness to undertake training.

Training courses are available, and can lead on to becoming a teaching assistant or tutor.
