Libraries open during coronavirus
Bookshelf browsing libraries
We have now opened some libraries for bookshelf browsing and borrowing, pre-bookable computers and WiFi sessions.

These are the only libraries that are offering bookshelf browsing.
We also have our Select and Collect libraries open, available for collecting books, using our bookable computers and Wi-Fi. We will be looking at rolling out browsing to these libraries as well in due course, please await further announcements.
We also expect to open more libraries over the coming months and aim to reopen services and facilities such as book browsing and study spaces. We will publish details of these as soon as they are confirmed.
Services available at the library

Alternatively you can borrow items from one of our Select and Collect libraries.
Please do not visit one of our libraries unless you are using one of the above services. We cannot take any type of payment or application for any bus passes.
Services not yet available
Across all of our opened libraries, you cannot use:
- our study spaces
- photocopying machines
- our toilet facilities.
We have also suspended our service for processing evidence needed as part of the applications for bus passes and Blue Badges.
Social distancing at the library
Due to the various sizes of our buildings, we will manage the number of people allowed in the library at one time.
If it is busy, we may ask you to wait outside until it is safe to come in.
Before you enter the library, we ask that you:
- sanitise your hands
- sanitise your gloves
- wear your mask (unless you are medically exempt)
- complete our track and trace information sheet (if you wish).
During your visit, we ask that you:
- keep to social distancing measures outlined at the library
- keep your mask on at all times
- respect our staff.
No charges will be applied to items taken out before the lockdown. These items will be automatically renewed until 31 December 2020.
Charges for overdue items will be applied to books taken out via the Select and Collect service. We are offering extended loan periods of 6 weeks for up 6 items from this service.
Books that were taken out before lockdown will have extended loan periods for all customers until the end of 2020.
If you already know you will need further extensions after December, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Some of these changes may take time to implement so please bear with us while we work through them.
Books taken out via one of our Select and Collect libraries can be returned to any of our open libraries with drop boxes or return bins outside.
How to pay
If possible, please use our card payment machines.
If a card payment machine is not available at the counter, the charges can then be paid via one of our self service kiosks or online via your library account.
Cash payments can be made at our self-service kiosks.
