Wills (probate records)
Probate describes how a person's will was confirmed or proved. Read our guide to probate records (PDF, 429.7 KB)
Wills up to 1858: we hold these at the Kent History and Library Centre.
Wills after 1858: use the probate search on the GOV.UK website.
Wills are the most widely-used of the probate records but you may also find:
- act books
- administration bonds
- probate accounts.
Wills can help you find out more about your family, belongings, wealth and even give you a clue about how well family members got on.
