Payments for children's social workers

The following market premium payments are made in addition to your salary (subject to terms and conditions):

Social Workers

  • District Children’s Social Work teams (excluding fostering Social Workers)
  • Children in Care teams
  • Front Door
  • Disabled Children’s Service

Amount: £3,000

Frequency

  • Split into 2 payments of £1500 and paid twice a year in June and December salary

Pension: yes

Criteria

  • newly Qualified Social Worker’s have to have been in post for 12 months
  • externally recruited staff have to satisfactorily complete 6 months probationary period
  • carrying full caseload
  • performance level – achieving or above
  • not subject to any formal disciplinary or capability process
  • working in post for minimum 4 months in previous 6 months
  • still in post as of 30 June or 31 December

Team Managers

Amount: £3,000

Frequency

  • Split into 2 payments of £1500 and paid twice a year in June and December salary

Pension: yes

Criteria

  • externally recruited staff have to satisfactorily complete 6 months probationary period
  • performance level – Successful/achieving or above
  • not subject to any formal disciplinary or capability process
  • working in post for minimum 4 months in previous 6 months
  • still in post as at 30 June or 31 December

£2,000 premium

Eligibility

Social Workers and Senior Practitioners in the following teams:

  • District Children’s Social Work Teams (excluding fostering Social Workers)
  • Children in Care teams
  • Front Door
  • Disabled Children’s Service
  • Adolescent teams
  • Integrated Family Services Manager (IFSM) and Children and Young Persons Services Manager (CYPSM) who hold direct line management responsibility for the teams above
  • Team Managers in all SCS teams

Frequency

  • Paid monthly

Pension: no

Criteria

Applies to eligible staff who use their own car to carry out their duties

  • replaces any existing car allowance\premium (e.g. essential user allowance).
  • mileage rate = 45p per mile.
  • must have business use insurance.

£410 premium

Eligibility

  • Social Workers and Senior Practitioners in all other teams including Area Fostering teams
  • Independent Review Officers
  • Independent Child Protection Conference Chairs
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Chairs
  • Practice Development Officer (PDO)
  • Principle Social Worker (PSW)

Frequency

  • paid monthly

Pension: no

Criteria

Applies to eligible staff not receiving protected “essential user “allowance, who use their own car to carry out their duties.

  • mileage rate = 45p per mile.
  • must have business use insurance

Team Managers

Eligibility

  • District Children’s Social Work teams
  • Children in Care teams
  • Adolescent teams

Amount

  • £4,000

Frequency

  • One-off payment on starting employment appointment

Criteria

  • repayable if individual leaves within 2 years
  • appointed from outside of KCC (does not apply to transfers from other teams or divisions)
  • includes agency workers appointed to substantive roles (unless an introductory fee is payable to the agency)
  • Social Workers and Senior Practitioners must have at least 2 years post qualifying experience relating to statutory children’s social work.

Experienced Social Workers and Senior Practitioners

Eligibility

  • District Children’s Social Work teams
  • children in Care teams
  • adolescent teams

Amount

  • £3,000

Frequency

  • one-off payment on starting employment appointment

Criteria

  • repayable if individual leaves within 2 years
  • appointed from outside of KCC (does not apply to transfers from other teams or divisions)

  • Social Workers and Senior Practitioners must have at least 2 years post qualifying experience relating to statutory children’s social work.

Eligibility

Any social worker or senior practitioner newly appointed to the following:

  • District Children’s Social Work teams
  • Children in Care teams
  • Front Door
  • Disabled Children’s Service

This applies to Social Workers/ Senior Practitioners recruited externally and internal staff who weren’t previously in a Social Worker role but have moved into an eligible Social Worker role i.e. this will include former Social Worker Assistants and Care Managers but will not apply to current Social Workers moving from ineligible teams.

Amount

  • £2,000

Frequency

  • paid as a lump sum

Criteria

Payment to be made in January 2019 to any Social Workers and Senior Practitioners, who will be completing 3, 4 or 5 years’ service within Social Work Services in KCC during the year ending 31 December 2018 (i.e. start date within Social Work Services would be during 2013, 2014 or 2015) and doesn’t include previous service.
