Payments for adult social care professionals
We offer competitive pay, and reward the hard work of our staff. The following market premium payments are for social work professionals within older people and physical disability and mental health.
Payments are made in addition to your salary (subject to terms and conditions).
Professionally qualified care managers, case managers, occupational therapists, social workers (non-approved mental health professional in mental health) and registered practitioners
Eligibility
Applies to the above roles in the below teams:
- Older People and Physical Disability teams
- Disabled Children, Learning Disability and Mental Health – Children Learning Disability (CLD)
- Mental Health teams
- DOLS and Safeguarding teams including Safeguarding Coordinators – all areas
Amount: £2,000
Criteria
- Appointed from outside of Kent County Council (does not apply to transfers from other teams or divisions)
- Includes agency workers appointed to substantive roles
- Includes Newly Qualified Social Workers appointed as part of an open recruitment process
- Repayable if individual leaves within 2 years
Dedicated and mixed roles approved mental health practitioners
Eligibility
Above roles at KR10 in all teams and areas
Amount: £2000
Criteria
- Appointed from outside KCC (does not apply to transfers from other teams or divisions)
- Includes agency workers appointed to substantive roles
- Repayable if individual leaves within 2 years
Team managers, senior practitioners, advanced practitioner and team leaders
Eligibility
Team managers in the following teams:
- Older People and Physical Disability teams – North Kent Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley only
All KR11 senior practitioner/ advanced practitioner/ team leader in all adults services’ teams:
- Older People and Physical Disability teams
- Disabled Children, Learning Disability and Mental Health - 0-25
- Mental Health including Approved Mental Health Professional – all areas including dedicated AMHP service
- DOLS and Safeguarding teams including Mental Health Safeguarding Coordinators
Amount: £3,000
Criteria
- Must have at least 2 years post qualifying experience
- Appointed from outside of Kent County Council (does not apply to transfers from other teams or divisions)
- Includes agency workers appointed to substantive roles
- Repayable if individual leaves within 2 years
Senior practitioner, advanced practitioner and team leaders in adults services teams
Eligibility
- all areas within DOLS and Safeguarding teams including Mental Health Safeguarding Coordinators
Amount: £3,000
Criteria
- must have at least 2 years post qualifying experience
- applied from outside Kent County Council (does not apply to transfers from other teams or divisions)
- includes agency workers appointed to substantive roles
- repayable if individual leaves within 2 years

Eligibility
- Older People and Physical Disability teams – North Kent Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley area only
- Disabled Children, Learning Disability and Mental Health 0-25 – all areas
- Disabled Children, Learning Disability and Mental Health - CLD - Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley and Swale area only
- Older People and Physical Disability teams – Disabled Children Sensory
- Mental Health – Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley only
- Team Managers (in 0-25 teams only)
Amount: £3,000
Frequency
- split into 2 payments of £1500 and paid twice a year in June and December salary
- qualifying periods: 01 June to 30 Nov; 1 Dec to 31 May.

Criteria
- Newly qualified social workers have to have been in post for 12 months
- externally recruited staff have to satisfactorily complete 6 months probationary period
- carrying full caseload
- performance level – achieving or above
- not subject to any formal disciplinary or capability process
- working in post for minimum 4 months in previous 6 months
- still in post as of 30 June or 31 December
Approved mental health practitioner (AHMP)
Amount: £2,000
Pension: yes
Criteria: paid on condition that they gain re-approval as an AMHP on a 5-yearly basis
Professionally qualified care managers, social workers, senior practitioners and team managers in the following teams
Eligibility: DCLDMH 0-25 – all areas
Amount: £2,000 per annum
Frequency: paid in monthly instalments
Pension: no
Criteria
- applies to eligible staff who use their own car to carry out their duties.
- replaces any existing car allowance\premium (e.g. essential user allowance)
- mileage rate = 45p per mile
- must have business use insurance
