Team manager (AMHP service)

Reporting to the service manager, team managers within the AMHP service hold accountability for the efficient working and performance of the team, ensuring adherence to legislation and the policies and procedures of the council.

Our team managers utilise agreed monitoring and review methods such as dashboards, wider divisional performance reports, staff supervision and workforce reports to develop the team’s knowledge base and expertise. This ensures that services are delivered and meet the standards required whilst promoting closer integrated working with partnership agencies and local care systems.

Our offer

Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs)

If you are a social worker, nurse, occupational therapist or psychologist holding an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification there are a number of opportunities for you within Kent:

Our AMHPs provide a high-quality, responsive 24 hour service to people with mental health needs requiring assessment under the Mental Health Act. Working in partnership with stakeholders and other agencies, our AMHPs ensure the service users in greatest need are appropriately supported and made safe whilst maintaining their rights.

We welcome applications from social workers, nurses, occupational therapists and psychologists who are qualified AMHPs or about to qualify.

AMHPs who are newly qualified have the opportunity to work in a developing AMHP role for a period of up to 9 months. This allows time to consolidate practice and receive training to undertake the additional duties of either shift coordination or quality assurance lead within the service.

Full time dedicated AMHPs work three 11.5 hour shifts per week covering days, nights and weekends.

We aim to balance the allocation of night and weekend shifts to individual needs and preferences ensuring a fair distribution of these shifts amongst the team.
The AMHP service offers flexible working agreements in line with our Work Smart flexible working procedure.

Dedicated AMHPs have a designated lead area within the service of either shift coordination or quality assurance. Shift coordinators will triage referrals on behalf of the service and organise the workload for daytime shifts. AMHPs with the quality assurance lead role will provide practice supervision, practice education, quality audits and direct observations for AMHPs within the team.

Full-time dedicated AMHPs work three 11.5 hour shifts per week covering days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Working within our locality mental health teams you will hold a social work caseload, supervise junior colleagues, promote the social care agenda and contribute on a rota basis to the dedicated AMHP service.

There are also specialist roles for social workers based in the forensic service who will carry a complex forensic caseload. These cases will all suffer from severe and enduring mental illness, be detained under the Mental Health Act and have been in contact with the criminal justice system. This is a constantly developing service which works very closely with the other agencies working within the health and criminal justice arena.

You will be an experienced mental health professional who is committed to working and promoting the social care agenda in a highly specialised multidisciplinary team.

Working in partnership with stakeholders and other agencies our AMHPs ensure the service users in greatest need are appropriately supported and made safe whilst maintaining their rights.

For AMHPs who wish to have a more flexible working arrangement we offer a zero hours AMHP contract. Work can be undertaken either as full shifts or on the basis of a flat fee per assessment.
