Paddock Wood surface water management plan

Paddock Wood has experienced significant river flooding events, notably in 1960, 1968 and 2000. In more recent years a number of incidents of surface water flooding associated with the small watercourses, sewerage and private drainage systems have been reported.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council required evidence to demonstrate the current risk to the existing developed area and to potential future development areas. They also needed to ensure that new development does not increase the risk of flooding, and where possible may enable risk to be reduced.

Conclusions

Following the study and a public engagement event, it was shown that there is no single measure which could substantially reduce flood risk across Paddock Wood. Instead, a combination of policies, local action and larger-scale measures will be required to manage and reduce the existing level of flood risk.
