Your views on the 5 Year Plan - video transcript

The Leader of Kent County Council, Roger Gough, sits in a country park.

At first sight the strategic statement might sound a little bit dull, but what it's actually about it how we set the course for all the things the county council does over the next few years. Things that will make a real difference to the lives of people in Kent, through all the services we provide. Whether it is in social services, roads, schools, country parks - like this one that we are sitting in at the moment - all those different things that we help to provide for residents in Kent. We're trying to set out what our priorities are, what we think is really important over the next few years and this is a chance to shape it.

I've just become Leader of the council in the last few weeks, this is a chance for us all to set the course, to focus on the things that are really important and we've got to do that as well as we can. We need to know what it is that really matters to people in Kent.

There are some great opportunities, there are also some quite tough choices to be made in terms of what we give the most priority to. We've often talked about services that provide the best start in life for young people, we've talked about protecting the elderly and vulnerable residents as well, but also about those services that people come across in their day to day lives. So the people who may be in the middle of life, not necessarily dependant on some of our other services but for whom the state of the roads, the amenity of where they live, these sorts of things really matter as well. It's very important we hear from all those different groups and get a view in the round as to what is it that actually going to make life in Kent better.
