Sexual orientation and civil partnerships

Currently, the only information on the sexual orientation of Kent residents comes from the 2001 Census and is a table showing the number of people aged 16 and over who are in same-sex couples (PDF, 87k).

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) publish statistics on the number of civil partnerships that have been formed.

The number of partnerships that have been formed annually in Kent since 21 December 2005 (the first day a couple could form a civil partnership in England and Wales) is presented in the factsheet Civil Partnerships formed in Kent (PDF, 17k).

Important note on the data:

The figures are an annual count of civil partnerships that have been formed within the county of Kent.  They may or may not be civil partnerships formed by Kent residents.  The figures cannot be combined to provide a cumulative count of civil partners in Kent as no account has been taken of dissolutions.  Statistics are only available for Kent as a whole.
