Profile of Kent residents by age
Annual mid-year population estimates published
by the Office for National Statistics provide the most up to date
picture of Kent's population. The figures are available by
5-year age group and gender for Kent local authority district areas
and electoral wards.
The population estimates will indicate how large Kent's young
and elderly population are, for example. However, they
provide no further information on the characteristics of each of
the population groups.
The 2001 Census provides the most comprehensive socio-economic
profile of the residents by age. A selection of data
outlining the characteristics ( for example, health, housing,
employment status etc.,) for three population groups is

To assist Kent County Council develop its later life strategy,
an Older
People of Kent report has also been produced.
Kent's population profile is changing. The number of young
and middle aged people is forecast to decline in future years,
whereas the number of older people is forecast to significantly
increase. Our population is ageing and one of the reasons for
this is increased life expectancy.
